Warranty conditions
Every watch we sell comes with a warranty from us. This page explains exactly what that warranty covers, what it does not cover, and how to make a claim.
This warranty is a voluntary commercial guarantee that we grant in addition to the rights you already have by law. It is not a replacement for them.
1. Your statutory rights
This warranty does not restrict your statutory rights in any way.
As a consumer you have statutory rights against us if the goods are defective (the legal guarantee of conformity). Exercising those rights is free of charge for you, and they exist independently of this warranty. Where a fault falls under both your statutory rights and this warranty, you may choose which to rely on. Where this warranty runs longer than the statutory period, the longer period applies in your favour.
Your statutory rights are set out in clause 8 of our General Terms and Conditions.
2. Who gives this warranty
Uladzislau Haiduk, sole proprietor Henschelring 2A 85551 Kirchheim bei München, Germany
Email: u.haiduk@watches4collectors.com Telephone: +49 173 8605674
3. Which watches are covered
This warranty applies to every pre-owned watch purchased from watches4collectors.com and delivered to an address in Germany or another Member State of the European Union.
4. How long the warranty lasts
The warranty period depends on the age and service history of the individual watch. It is either 401 days or 1001 daysfrom the date of delivery.
The period that applies to your watch is stated in three places:
- in the product description, before you order
- on the warranty card supplied with the watch, including the exact end date
- on your invoice
A repair carried out under this warranty does not extend the warranty period.
5. What the warranty covers
The warranty covers the proper functioning of the movement, specifically:
- running and timekeeping within the tolerance specified by the manufacturer, or within 15 seconds per day where the manufacturer specifies none
- winding, whether manual or automatic
- hand-setting and date-setting
- those complications that were described as functioning in the product description at the time of purchase
If we confirm a warranty claim, we will either repair the watch or refund the purchase price, at our discretion.
Our liability under this warranty is limited in all cases to the purchase price of the watch concerned.
6. What the warranty does not cover
The warranty does not cover:
- normal wear and tear
- wearing parts, in particular bracelets and straps, glasses, crowns, seals and batteries
- consequential damage to the movement or case caused by worn or damaged wearing parts — in particular moisture entering through aged seals or a bent crown stem
- water damage of any kind. Water resistance is not a permanent property of a watch. Seals age and deteriorate through everyday use, and temperature changes, chlorine, soap and salt water affect them further. Water resistance should be tested annually and before any special exposure. Please never operate the crown or a chronograph pusher under water, regardless of the water resistance stated for the watch.
- mechanical damage, including damage caused by impact, dropping or external force
- damage caused by improper use, negligence, or failure to follow the manufacturer’s operating instructions
- interventions, repairs or servicing carried out by a watchmaker not authorised by us
- modification of the watch by adding or replacing components with aftermarket parts not supplied by the manufacturer
- a full service or overhaul of the watch, and any work carried out by the manufacturer or by an authorised brand service centre
- theft or loss of the watch
7. Availability of spare parts
Our obligation to provide a warranty service does not arise where a spare part required for the repair is demonstrably not obtainable, or where the manufacturer does not supply it, for reasons outside our control. In that case we will refund the purchase price against return of the watch instead.
8. How to make a claim
Please contact us before sending anything in. Write to u.haiduk@watches4collectors.com describing the fault, and include your invoice number.
We will then agree the next steps with you. Depending on the fault and on where you are, one of two routes applies.
Route 1 — you send the watch to us
- Send the watch at your own cost, fully insured for at least the purchase price you paid and by a trackable service. We strongly recommend that you let us arrange the shipment with you — we can organise insured transport, and it protects both sides.
- Please enclose a copy of the invoice and the warranty card.
- We will assess the watch and let you know the outcome as quickly as we can. Where an external watchmaker has to be involved, this takes longer, and we will keep you informed.
Route 2 — a watchmaker near you
Where sending the watch to us is not proportionate, we may instead ask you to present the watch to an authorised watchmaker in your area and obtain a written cost estimate. Please send us that estimate and wait for our written approval before any work begins. Work started without our prior approval is not covered by this warranty.
Costs
If we confirm the fault is a warranty case, we reimburse what you paid to send the watch in, we cover the cost of the estimate under Route 2, we settle the repair within the limit in section 5, and we return the watch to you at our expense.
If the fault is not covered by this warranty, we will tell you why and offer you a quote for a paid repair. If you decline, we will return the watch to you; the cost of that return shipment, and of any estimate obtained, is yours.
9. Other provisions
This warranty applies to the original purchaser and is not transferable to a subsequent owner.
This warranty is governed by German law. Your statutory rights as a consumer, including any mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence, remain unaffected.
Should any provision of these warranty conditions be or become invalid, the remaining provisions are unaffected.
